SEEKOEIVLEI NATURE RESERVE

Containing a unique wetland, Seekoeivlei Nature Reserve acts as a key habitat for more than a quarter of the Free State's endangered bird species. Consisting of numerous lakes and adjoining marshland, the wetland is created by the Klip River which winds through the reserve. This habitat is a haven to numerous aquatic bird species. Three well-positioned bird hides offer the opportunity to observe the interesting array of feathered folk. Mammal species are being reintroduced.

The reserve is still in the process of being developed for visitors. As yet, no accommodation is available. However, there is a picnic site with braai facilities. Seekoeivlei is open throughout the year. Opening time: Sunrise to sunset (check with reserve).

How to get there:
Seekoeivlei lies just to the north of the small town of Memel in the extreme eastern part of the Free State. Memel is on the R34, 50km west of Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal.
